Clinique's cleansing soap contains tallow and lye as the basic ingredients. Extra mild and mild cleansing soaps have emollients added to the basic ingredients. Emollients soothe tender and sensitive skins. Soaps meant for oily skins are free of oil in their composition. They contain menthol to thoroughly clean oily skins. All cleansing soaps produce very little lather and are therefore easy to wash off without leaving any residue. All soaps are allergy tested and contain no fragrance. Over the years, as Clinique developed its exfoliating or clarifying lotions, it removed controversial ingredients like acetone, phenol, turpentine, thymol and methylleugenol from its formulae. At present all versions of clarifying lotions contain denatured alcohol within safe limits. Moisturizers include allantoin, vegetable fat, vitamin c esters, cellulose to give body and water as solvent.

In addition to the three-step skin care products, new products were developed to deal with special skin conditions. Clinique claims that the cleansing soap does not remove makeup. It offers special preparations to remove eye makeup, and a separate product to remove makeup from the rest of the face. The cleansing soap may be used after the safe removal of makeup. Clinque has also developed a mechanical exfoliator, a scrub that is to be used one to three times in a week. Clinique offers another separate product, SPF15 product for facial use, to protect from UV rays. Clinique products are expensive and enjoy a high reputation world wide. The company has not changed its advertising strategies since its inception. It is only since 2006 that the packaging of Clinique products has changed in design. No animals are used to test Clinique products.
