Athletes foot is a skin disease that is caused by a fungus, and it usually occurs between the toes. Fungus develops around the feet because shoes create a warm and humid environment that can promote fungus growth. Athletes foot may spread to the soles of the feet and the toenails as well!

You may be able to prevent athlete's foot:

    * Keep your feet clean and dry.
    * Dry between your toes after swimming or bathing. Use a hair dryer.
    * Wear shoes or sandals that allow air to circulate around your feet.
    * Use talcum powder or an antifungal powder on your feet.
    * Allow the shoes to dry for 24 hours before you wear them again.
    * Wear socks to absorb sweat. White socks do not prevent athlete's foot.
    * Wear a clean pair of socks every day.
    * Wear thongs or shower sandals in public pools and showers.

An athletes foot treatment for a mild case, would be to keep the feet dry and dust foot powder in shoes and hosiery. The feet should be bathed frequently and the toe area should be dried thoroughly. This treatment can possibly cure athletes foot, especially a milder case.
