Everyone experiences some hair loss every day. In fact, it is normal to lose up to 100 hairs a day. However, for many people, hair loss becomes worrisome. Excessive hair loss can be caused by factors such as genetics, disease, injury, or old age, all of which affect the normal growth cycle of hair. The most common cause of hair loss is called adrogenetic alopecia. This is the known medical term for hair loss. In the United States today, millions of men and women are suffering from premature thinning or hair loss. It would be to ones advantage to have a dermatologist provide an evaluation of the scalp.

Why am I losing my hair?
Many inherit the tendency to go bald from either or both of your parents. In both women and men, genes trigger a sensitivity to a class of hormones called androgens, including testosterone, which causes hair follicles to shrink. Shrinking follicles, the sheath that surrounds the root of a hair, produce thinner hair and eventually none at all. In men with androgenetic alopecia, hair loss occurs in a typical pattern on the forehead area and on top of the head. In women with androgenetic alopecia, hair loss occurs throughout the scalp with overall thinning of hair.

Does a hair loss remedy work?
An evaluation determining why you have suffered hair loss would be the first step. Afterwards, your doctor can suggest the proper hair loss remedy. If in fact, a medicine is causing your hair loss, perhaps your doctor will prescribe a different medicine. There are many hair loss products on the market today that might prevent further hair loss. Although, not all hair loss products will provide the benefits that they indicate for each individual. If adequate hair loss treatment is not available for you, then you might consider trying wigs, hairpieces, hair weaves, or artificial hair replacement. The hair loss treatment is determined according to the reason for hair loss.

Female Hair loss
There are several contributors to female hair loss. If you are undergoing hormonal complications, or lacking in vitamin and mineral supplements, or even having had a major operation, the female hair loss that you have experienced may be related to one of these situations. Since hair loss maybe an early sign of a disease, it is important to find the cause so it can be treated.
